Finally, A Purchase Is Made

Looking, looking, oh wait there’s one - a 2016 Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4x4 Access Cab in Blazing Blue Pearl... Doh! sold immediately to someone else. In Fall 2015, these particular trucks were not on dealership lots for very long. Demand was high, yet inventory was super low. There were lots of rumors and stories circulating on the TacomaWorld forums as to why demand could not be met. Things like the assembly line in Mexico got shut down for quality issues, or a lack of parts caused the San Antonio, TX line to pause. Plus, I was reading that new owners were finding their trucks not fully filed with lubricants or grease. Figured there would be all sorts of teething problems with this new generation model, but not to this degree. Come on Toyota!

Finally in early October 2015, the exact rig I was looking for popped up on Toyota Carlsbad’s inventory website. Boom! called them up right away and placed a deposit. Now began the dance with the dealership to make the purchase. However, that dude Murphy with his darn law showed up instead and snaked me.

According to the records Polū was built on October 2, 2015. Yet when I was at Toyota Carlsbad on October 15th to complete the paperwork, it had not physically arrived despite indicating being on site. I was told it was in transit and would arrive on the 21st. In addition, as I was trading in my Mazda B3000, the dealership wanted it in their possession now so that I would no longer put any more miles on it, plus eliminate the potential of getting in accident and thus the old truck be worth nothing. Ok fine as I figured waiting just seven days would not be an issue, and I have a second car available. All the paperwork was completed, and I paid my money.

But then the waiting game began. After umpteen number of delays and 25 days after handing over my money, the truck finally arrived at the dealership on November 9, 2015. Also yo, what the dileo as it already had 41 miles on the odometer? Never really got a solid answer from either the dealership or Toyota Corporate as to why all the miles. Allegedly it was held for 25 days for a “QA inspection” and it may have been driven around to perform an EPA test. Whatever... on November 10, 2015 Polū was finally mine!

well really Toyota Financial's since I am making payments
